Higher Education
Since the early 90s, numerous degree
courses have evolved in Microsystems Technology parallel to technology
developments.
Universities and universities of applied sciences have either
introduced degree programs or – more often – major fields of study and
specialization in the field of MST.
These courses are presently oriented around natural and engineering
science, since the teaching of profound mathematical-natural scientific
and engineering scientific knowledge is imperative.
A full-time degree course in the field of MST – irrespective of whether
it is a specific course or a major field of study or specialization –
lasts at least four years.
Currently, there are more than 80 German universities involved to
varying degrees in the training of MST engineers.
An excellent overview of current MST degree programs at German
universities is provided at the Higher Education Compass website
All higher education opportunities in the field of MST are alphabetically listed on the following pages::

According to a 2002 report by the FU Berlin employers and graduates are
equally satisfied with the quality of education. The employment rate
for graduates is comparatively high and they are in great demand in the
job market. However, the number of fully qualified MST engineers is
currently insufficient to meet the demands, particularly in
medium-sized industry.
